Stetchworth Estate is a family-owned farm on the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk border, stretching over 1600 hectares. With the upcoming construction of their on-farm grain store, associate grain dryer and intake pit, PRR Safety was brought in to act as the principle designer and health and safety consultant for the main contractor, GrainTek Limited.
The overall aim of the project was to replace the existing concrete silo four structure
that was built in the late 50s and early 60s with an up-to-date set of new silos. A ‘slipform’ method of concrete construction was used throughout.
Following the completion of the slipform silos, brand-new bulk material handling equipment was to be installed for loading and unloading to other silos, HGV and ships. Modern engineering principles and equipment safeguards were required for this complex operation.
A leading sensor technology company required a robust system for handling hydrogen, oxygen, and mixes of these gases, during their sensor testing phase. Using our expertise and experience in handling dangerous substances, particularly hydrogen, we undertook the task of assisting with the design process that would ensure absolute safety for everyone.
Our commitment extended over several months, ensuring not only the immediate safety of the processes but also providing ongoing support for continued safety measures.
