Safety & Compliance At The Lakenheath Fuel Station Project

LCM Environmental were brought in to design and install a new fuel station at Lakenheath, working alongside the main contractor, Kier Group. This facility is being developed to provide refuelling for both base and private vehicles, ensuring a reliable and efficient fueling solution.

Given the nature of the project, strict safety measures were essential. With petrol and diesel on-site, the risk of fire and explosion had to be thoroughly assessed and mitigated. Our team was brought in to conduct a design stage DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) assessment, ensuring that all aspects of the project met the highest safety and compliance standards.

Expertise in Fuel Safety & Compliance

Having worked on previous MOD projects, we understood the requirements involved. Our experience with fuel regulations and DSEAR compliance allowed us to provide in-depth risk assessments and practical recommendations to align the project with all necessary safety protocols.

Key areas of focus included:
  • Conducting a detailed fire and explosion risk assessment.
  • Reviewing existing safety measures and ensuring full compliance.
  • Providing recommendations to enhance site safety and operational efficiency.

By applying our specialist knowledge in fuel safety, we ensured that the Lakenheath fuel station was designed and built to the highest safety standards. Our expertise in fuel installations, combined with our understanding of MOD processes, helped deliver a project that is both compliant and future-proof.

This successful collaboration resulted in a secure and efficient refuelling station, meeting the needs of both base operations and private vehicle users while prioritising safety at every stage.
